The paddle shifters are almost useless

    We finally agree on something!

I have not found a set of paddle shifters that are responsive on a regular automatic transmission either. Ive driven about a half dozen. The closest I can say to a very sporty experience was in an Infiniti qx70 crossover (7 speed)

So I do not disagree that they perform any differently than what is typically found.

However, you can't deny that Ford touted them as being something more. They hyped them up as being high performance paddle shifters capable of blasting across the desert in Baja mode with blazing shifts and plumes of sand being sprayed.

For that purpose the automatic transmission without the paddles would work far superior.

My infiniti has fantastic paddle shift response. So no, not all paddle shifters are the same.
Thus its good to set and share expectations

I had a qx70. Was pretty good. Manual stick mode though but same idea as paddles and they were pretty responsive.

It's not like a double clutch though.

I personally think they are in the truck to facilitate shifting on high speeds so as not to take your hands off the wheel.
