I have the Bakflip F1 on my 2010 Raptor and it has been bullet proof. Love everything about except the P-I-A closing mechanism. I live on the beach and the fiberglass materials used on the F1 are far superior to any type of aluminum etc. After 6 years it looks brand new in even the harshest environment.

The 5.5 bed is too short to use a roll back type of cover IMHO

In prep for delivery of my GEN2, I am buying accessories.

So i was stuck with the idea of getting another Bakflip F1 with P-I-A closing mechanism or the hot off the block MX4 with good closing mechanism but inferior seals and material for my application.

What I found out after a lot of misinformation is the F1 is upgradeable to the improved mechanism IF you buy from the factory and ask for it. They are not making this common knowledge so they can get rid of the old inventory with inferior closing mechanism. If you are considering the F1, make sure you specify the new improved mechanism or you will be paying premium for old inferior stock (until that is exhausted).

Morrie can order you one as specified BUT YOU HAVE TO ASK.

I had a G2 for over 3 years on my FX4 and loved it. My only problem was a hail storm. So I was going to order another one. When I looked before the new year there was a big sale online. Long story shorter, looked after the first and it went back up so I called them 3 days ago. Not only would they go for the sale price, but they took $30 off the MX4 making it only $60 more than the G2. Sooooooo, it's in the mail.

Bottom line, I recommend BAK FLIP.

MX4 is matte finish and has improved closing mechanism. Mx4 is aluminum (will dent and may or may not hold up in beach environment). F1 has proven itself in my environment but had a bad/awkward closing design on v1.0. They are changing the design of F1 so you will have best of both worlds (impervious materials and improved closing) but are currently flushing out old v1.0 stock. If you buy F1, ask for newer version- currently you can only get this version directly from factory (distributors and dealers have old version they are still selling).

The closing mechanism allows you to close the tailgate with the cover down, unlike the G2s right now. Not a big deal for me, but when the wife or kids go to shut it...... peace of mind. But really I want the Matt finish.

And the aluminium is stronger on the MX4 vs G2. 400lbs vs 300lbs, so the say.

Boyz i'm right there with ya, last week I bought the BK-MX4 from Real Truck. they were giving 60.00 off plus free ship. I spoke with Reps at Bak. Industries. They told me that I could get the same MX4 with discount, but I have to pay tax because their headquarter office is in Ocala FL. So I googled it and found the same deal w/o tax.

MX4 est to arrive 1/12, before the Rappy gets here :(

I don't know, i'm seeing pro's and con's amongest all of the options out there. I was going to order and have it pre-installed at time of pick up next month but at this point i think i'm going to wait until the new E version for the Roll N Lock is out in a few months and then make a decision and purchase.

I have the MX4 installed. Love It!! Awesome finish. Tailgate opens and closes without opening up top.

Just noticed the warranty difference between the FiberMax and the MX4.

    FiberMax - $879.88 - 2 yr
    MX4 - $899.88 - 3yr

    Thought it worth mentioning

The website shows the latch system as a cable. Is that the updated version or the one to avoid?

I believe they all use the cable system. I know both of mine had them, G2 and now MX4. The updated stuff that I know of is that you can close the tailgate without raising the cover.
