Hi everyone. The engine on my truck needs to be replaced due to a malfunction of the camshaft, does anybody have the same problem? I dont feel comfortable having the dealership install a new engine beacause it might affect the value of my truck negatively, plus with all the modes that the truck has I think that it should be done in the factory.
Way doubtful they'll send the truck back to Dearborn. There has been a few cases of timing phasers and cams going south.
If a new engine is going to effect the resale value I don't see why it would matter if it's done at the dealer. Sorry to hear your bad luck.
My concern is that the dealer's technician are not trained to install the high output 3.5 ecooboost engine, plus the computer aspect of the vehicle. Unlike a regular f-150, the gen 2 raptor has 6 modes.
If I had the choice between having the truck repaired at the dealership and factory I’d choose the factory. The different modes don’t effect engine power, each just hasnhow the engine respondes to your inputs. In sport mode the throttle has better response, Baja keeps the boost up so Lower delay of power coming back on. I’ve run the truck checking 0-60 in comfort, sport & Baja with traction on, off and each time the times are the same. Biggest diff between modes is transmission shift harshness and times.
TRaptor I am having the same issue, my dealer is replacing the cams today after a 3 week wait. From everything I've read on the boards it seems like this is a common issue with the Ecoboost engines. Did you get any error messages before the issue? I had a misfire message and the dealership told me some oil sensor connector had come lose which they replaced.
I have had the code one time at about 5k. The code hasn't returned. The truck now has 39k on it. Reach out to Ford and see which dealership in your area they would recommend to replace the engine. You are spot on in as far as a qualified tech. During the early years of Gen 1 we had challenges finding experienced techs, as the truck was brand new.
There was no error message on the dash, I just noticed the engine knock. The dealership says that they are still diagnosing it and there is no need for a new engine now.Seems like they can't make up their mind or don't know what they are doing.
They can't even figure out what's causing the engine knock after having my truck for 2 weeks, but they think they are capable of mounting a new engine. Smh...
Update: It's for certain, my Raptor needs a new engine. Sad thing is There were 2 other Raptors in their shop, but I don't know if it's there for the same reason.
Your lucky, my dealer is so greedy. They would only trade it in, so that means I would be loosing more money. Would you mind telling me what's your dealerships name?
What was your outcome on this? I have a Gen II that around 10-11K started ticking. Was in shop for 21 days for this issue and they determined Cam play due to bad cam VCT Phaser. I was told drive the truck as is and we will let you know when parts are available. I am real unhappy and think this must be damaging the motor. My truck has been in the shop over thirty days in the first 12 months. Paint Issue, Seat Pad and Cover Issue, Shifter cable recall, Missing bolt on seat (very dangerous) Dash board carbon fiber deformed, Dash panel hitting door, door rattle, suspension rattle, shifting issues, cracked starter button and oh yeah Cam Failure! No quality control WTF?
Trade that thing in. No way am I spending that much of my time back and forth to the shop for any vehicle!! NO WAY
